Giving orders: the imperative
Drop the subject, keep the verb
To tell someone to do something, drop tu, nous or vous and keep the verb: Mange ! Mangeons ! Mangez ! For -er verbs, the tu form loses its s: tu manges → Mange ! Être and avoir are irregular: sois / soyons / soyez, aie / ayons / ayez.
Pronouns go after the verb with a hyphen in a positive order, and me / te become moi / toi: Regarde-moi ! Lève-toi ! In a negative order they go back in front: Ne me regarde pas. Ne te lève pas.
